This radio is a solid performer for a ALL band all mode radio. The size is perfect and the head unit is very unique. Having the microphone connect to the head unit is a great plus (has headset connector also on the head unit). Unit is made solid and should last a long time.

Here's a limited use review.
With a wide choice of bands and the smaller size, this rig will fit in a auto or just decrease the clutter on your desk. Positives - NR, touch screen, size, buttons with 'light'(easy to view at night), not too complex menu, connectivity, voice storage, low current draw on receive and overall bang for the buck.
Negative - not much really - lack of antenna tuner , main knob is not weighted (as expected ) but feels much different than other weighted tuning knobs.
Icom has been on a roll in the last few years and this rig is highly recommended.

Coming from 6 past 706mkiig back ground....WOW I should have bought one these long ago. With the RT Systems programming software i was able to have 6 states repeaters programmed along with simplex and weather radio frequencies for 2/440/6 meter in 15 minutes. New Truck, MTC got it to me in just over a day. Taking a long ,multi state offroading trip and the radio is done! Thank you MTC.....Such amazing customer service! Will be back for more goodies!

I have a IC 7300 which I love but decided to buy a IC7100 which has D-Star and VHF and UHF. I love the quirky control panel. In fact, I enjoy operating more than my 7300. The ergonomics are that good. It is a real sleeper of a great radio. Thinking of buying a second one to put in my bedroom.

Purchased the 7100 to replace my 706m2g.Blows the 706 away. What a difference in receive. A lot more quiet. Many features including a voice recorder and keying.. Will be using it mostly for vhf/uhf ssb and contesting. MTC had the best price and shipping as always.

Excellent multi-purpose rig. This is my second IC-7100. It is hard to beat for a rig that covers all of the frequencies and modes that this rig does. It works extremely well mobile as well as base operation.

I have owned other ICOMs before so it is easy to get learn. Operating it base until my Texas Bug Catcher arrives from MTC at which point it will be mobile. Will review further at that time..

I was hesitant about buying the IC-7100 because I had not seen any thorough reviews. I also read that it was extremely complex to operate. The only problem I have encountered is a few unknown menu items and a little research cleared that up. I love it! It is actually easy to operate on AM,FM,SSB, D-Star, Digital and CW. The touch screen control makes things fast and easy.

This is my 2nd IC-7100 and find them to be the greatest. The next generation I'm sure will have the same capabilities but a color screen like they are advertising with the IC-705. You still can't outgrow the 7100...

I have owned a 5100 for some time and thought buying the 7100 would be very similar in operation but it is not. There is a ton more complexity to working with this unit. The lack of a standard GPS (yes I know I can buy one for it) makes it a lot less capable as a VHF/UHF radio. Band switching is a breeze and tuning very easy. I guess I hoped I was getting a 5100 with HF capabilities but that is not the case.
