FT-70DR C4FM FDMA / FM 144/430 MHz DUAL BAND 5W Handheld Transceiver
The new FT-70DR is a compact and very attractively priced YAESU System Fusion transceiver providing both conventional analog FM operation and the advanced C4FM Digital mode.
The FT-70DR provides up to 5W of reliable RF power, and its large Front Speaker delivers 700mW of Loud Audio Output. Because C4FM has better BER (Bit Error Rate) characteristics than other digital modulations, the user can expect exceptional audio quality.
The new digital FT-70DR includes our unique Automatic Mode Select (AMS) function. AMS detects the operating mode of the received signal as C4FM digital or analog FM, and then automatically and instantly switches the receiver to the appropriate mode. Users do not need to manually change between modes.
The multi-colored LED Mode-Indicator displayed on the front allows the operator to easily see what mode the FT- 70DR is in at any given moment. LED Mode-Indicator clearly and visibly shows the transmit/ receive mode by changing its color so that the operating mode of the transceiver is easily recognized at a glance.
One of the other distinguishing features of the FT-70DR is Digital Group Monitor (GM) with DG-ID and DP-ID. DGID (Digital Group Identification) and DP-ID (Digital Personal Identification) are useful features now included in the FT-70DR, to simplify the GM operation. Simply put, the transceivers selecting the same DG-ID or DP-ID can communicate with each other. Between 00 and 99 DG-ID and DP-ID are selectable which provides loads of flexibility so that users can enjoy group communication with friends in GM mode in accordance to their individual operational needs.
Other included standard features and functions are; IP54 Rating (Dust/ Water Protection) construction, wide band receive coverage of 108 – 579.995MHz, Versatile Scanning Capabilities such as Programmable VFO Scan, Memory Scan, and Priority Channel Scan, External DC Jack for DC Supply Operation and to Charge the Battery, Mini USB port for convenient programming and software updates, CTCSS/ DCS Operation, Automatic Power Off (AFO) feature, RF Squelch, Transmitter Time Out Timer (TOT) and Busy Channel Lock-Out (BCLO).

THIS RADIO FOR $178 IS A DEFINATE BUY FOR DUAL MODE HTS. IT'S EASY TO PROGRAM AND HAS EXCELLENT AUDIO. BUT IF I DID PAY $20 MORE I WOULD STILL BUY IT MAYBE. BECAUSE OF THE SMALL BATTERY. I PLAN ON GETTING ANOTHER ONE AND GET OUT OF ANALOG ONLY HTS ALTOGETHER.

Great little radio. Works very well with the local repeaters as well as accessing the WIRES-X/Fusion System. I've also got the FT2DR and I like the size of the 70 better. The different colored TX and RX lights are also very cool. Programing is preferred using the RT Systems software (like all my Yaesu radios) and the menu system is easy to access and navigate. Overall, I'm very happy with the radio and would recommend it.
I purchased mine from MTC and the customer service was top notch with very quick shipping. They also had the best price I found on the internet. I will certainly shop there again. Thanks MTC!

MTC has the best service and will use for all my radio needs.

I LOVE this HT! It's a much more affordable way of getting into dual band C4FM than the FT1 or the FT2. One big improvement over my past experiences with an FT1 is that you can save the mode into a memory channel. So, no matter what mode you were in, whenever you go back to that channel, you'll be sure to be in the mode you need to be in.
TX audio is loud and crisp. If only the Cheap Chinese Radios could sound as good as Yaesu does with the crisp high-end audio along with the low end too. Receive audio is good too. The receiver has an attenuator function, so if you live in an area with a lot of intermod, that will most likely help.
I've gotten excellent signal reports in several Fusion Rooms, and everyone who I talk to on analog says this is my best sounding radio ever. Not bad for around $200 (or less if you find a deal). For what it's worth, MTC had the best deal I could find anywhere on this radio!

I am very impressed with the features of this radio for the price. This is likely the best HT that I have ever owned.
