From Humble Beginnings

We Started in 2009 when Richard lost his job in sales due to a struggling economy. We Started selling on eBay. We would drive to DFW and bring back small pick up loads of surplus and closeouts. Our neighbors were really proud of us when we received our first truckload delivery at our home! In just a few short months the volume got out of hand and our living room and patio looked like a warehouse. We rented a small store front in Beautiful downtown Paris Tx in June of 2009. Times got even tougher when Christine lost her job as a radio announcer. She came on full time as well.

Being an avid ham radio operator, Richard thought it would be great to sell some ham radio items in our original store along with the surplus we were carrying at the time. We starting importing many items. We started attending hamfests and buying and selling used gear. We started building a name. Kenwood, Icom, Alinco and Yaesu came on along with many accessory brands over the years.

We moved around to bigger places and smaller places as we have honed and adapted to ever changes market conditions. At one time we were doing almost 30 hamfests a year as we built our brand and our name.

We are still learning, growing and adapting.

We have made many changes and mistakes while we have been in business. The one constant thing that we learned early on that has not changed is that if we trust God and treat others fairly great things can and do happen.

What Makes Us Different


We take trade-ins. This sounds simple, but almost no ham radio retailers do it. Most operators who want to sell their gear end up on QRZ classifieds or eBay — dealing with fees, shipping headaches, and lowball offers. We give you a straightforward number, and if you accept it, we take it off your hands. That credit goes toward whatever you want: new gear, used gear, or one of our SPE Expert amplifiers. If you don't want store credit, we'll pay you cash.
This matters more than it might seem. It means customers can upgrade without taking a loss on their current equipment. It means estates can be handled without someone having to learn what a Kenwood TS-590S is worth. And it means our used inventory is constantly refreshed with gear that's actually been in active use — not just whatever no one else wanted.
We're authorized dealers for the brands that matter. MTC Radio is an authorized SPE Expert amplifier dealer and an authorized dealer for Icom, Yaesu, and Kenwood. When you buy from us, you're getting factory-backed warranty coverage, not gray market equipment.
We know what we're talking about. Richard is a licensed Amateur Extra radio operator. When you call us with a technical question — which antenna tuner pairs well with your radio, whether the 1.5K-FA Taurus is the right amp for your station, what a fair price is for that used transceiver you found — you're talking to someone who uses this equipment, not a sales rep reading off a spec sheet.
We've been around long enough to have seen it all. Since 2009, we've handled everything from first-time buyers getting their first HT to experienced operators building high-power contest stations. We've taken in complete shack estates when families didn't know where to start. We've shipped equipment to all 50 states. We have a sense of what holds value, what doesn't, and what's worth paying attention to.

We're one of the top SPE Expert dealers in the World. SPE Expert amplifiers are manufactured in Italy and represent the current state of the art in solid-state HF amplification — built-in auto-tuner, no warm-up time, no tube replacement, US warranty service through Expert Amps USA.

Update:

In the Summer of 2024 we moved to our current location. This was our warehouse before. We can now have everything under one roof. We downsized our retail store a bit but the storage and warehouse area is much larger. No more running back and forth across town to fill orders. As we continue to evolve we hope to be around for years while always striving to serve you better.

It has been quite a ride, Ya'll. We have raised three kids out of our little ham store. Many great things continue to happen. We are amazed!

July 2026:

We are now Empty Nesters. Instead of full blown retirement we are continuing MTC as usual, Well, almost. To allow for some travel, hamfests, spending time with each other, with kids and grand kids and visiting our daughter in college we are slowing things way down. We have worked really hard building MTC from the ground up out of nothing. God has been so good to us. We are now limiting our time in the store. We are open 9:30 AM to 5:00PM Monday through Thursday only. We can meet you here on some Fridays or Saturdays by appointment only. Just call us if you need to visit on our off days. If we are in town we will make arrangements.
